# Mailchimp

> Add chatbot leads and newsletter signups to your Mailchimp audience

Connect BubblaV to Mailchimp to add newsletter signups and other chatbot leads to a Mailchimp audience, with consent handled for you.

## Why Connect Mailchimp?

## Requirements

* A **Mailchimp account** with at least one audience
* A **BubblaV Pro plan or higher**
* At least one **website** in your BubblaV dashboard

## Connect Mailchimp

**1. Open Integrations**

Go to **Dashboard → your website → Integrations → Mailchimp**.

**2. Connect**

Click **Connect**. You go to Mailchimp's sign-in page.

**3. Approve access**

Sign in to Mailchimp and approve access for BubblaV.

**4. Choose an audience**

BubblaV opens the Mailchimp settings page. Pick the **Audience** that should receive your contacts.

> Until you choose an audience, nothing syncs to Mailchimp.

## Settings

| Setting | What it does |
| - | - |
| **Audience** | The Mailchimp audience that receives contacts. |
| **Opt-in mode** | **Double opt-in** (default): Mailchimp emails a confirmation link first. **Single opt-in**: the visitor is subscribed right away. Use single opt-in only when you already have consent. |
| **Add other chat leads as non-subscribed contacts** | On by default. Emails from chat, forms and bookings are saved without marketing consent. They get no campaigns, and they may count toward your Mailchimp contact limit. |
| **Tags** | Up to 10 tags, separated by commas. BubblaV adds them to every contact it sends. The default is `BubblaV`. |

## How statuses work

| Source | Status in Mailchimp |
| - | - |
| Newsletter integration signup, or the chatbot's `mailchimp_subscribe` tool | **Pending** with double opt-in, **Subscribed** with single opt-in |
| Any other lead (chat, forms, bookings) | **Non-subscribed** (transactional) |
| Someone already in your audience | Other leads never change their status. A subscribed or pending member stays subscribed or pending. |
| An address that bounced in Mailchimp (cleaned) | Never added again |

If a visitor who is non-subscribed, unsubscribed or archived asks to subscribe, BubblaV applies your opt-in mode. Mailchimp lets a person who unsubscribed back in only through a confirmation email, so in that case BubblaV falls back to a confirmation email.

When your audience has first name and last name fields, BubblaV sends the visitor's name as well. BubblaV does not send phone numbers.

## The chatbot tool

The chatbot gets one tool, **Subscribe to Mailchimp** (`mailchimp_subscribe`). It runs only when a visitor asks to join your newsletter or mailing list, or clearly agrees after the chatbot offers it. It never runs for an email given for support, orders or bookings.

The chatbot tells the visitor what happens next: that a confirmation email was sent, or that they are subscribed or already subscribed.

## Disconnect Mailchimp

**1. Open Integrations**

Go to **Dashboard → your website → Integrations → Mailchimp**.

**2. Disconnect**

Click **Disconnect**. BubblaV deletes the stored access and stops syncing.

> Contacts already in Mailchimp stay there.

## Troubleshooting

> Open **Dashboard → your website → Integrations → Mailchimp** and click **Reconnect**. Your saved settings are kept.

> [accordion] Nothing appears in Mailchimp
>
> Check that you chose an audience on the settings page. Until then, nothing syncs.

> [accordion] Names are missing in Mailchimp

> Your audience may not have the first name (FNAME) or last name (LNAME) merge fields. BubblaV then saves the contact without a name.

> [accordion] Other leads are not saved

> Check that **Add other chat leads as non-subscribed contacts** is on. If Mailchimp does not accept non-subscribed contacts for your account, those other leads are not saved. Newsletter signups still work.

> The address may have bounced in Mailchimp before. BubblaV never adds bounced addresses again.
